Gen X: The True Media Addicts

While 35- to 49-year-olds lecture their kids about spending too much time online or watching TV, it’s this very group — Generation X — that spends the most time consuming media, according to a new study by Nielsen.

Gen Xers spend almost 32 hours a week on all media, compared to 27 hours for millennials and 20 hours for the over-50 crowd.

And yes, Xers spend more time on social media too, beating out the tech-savvy millennials. The 35- to 49-year-old Xers averaged about seven hours, while millennials, aged 18 to 34, spent about 40 fewer minutes per week. People 50 and over spent just four hours a week on Facebook and other social media.
