Best Cities for Solo Travelers

Travel and Leisure’s latest ranking lists cities such as Ojai, California, and Marfa, Texas, as great places to visit when you’re traveling solo.

“Travelers often head to the desert to find themselves. Ojai, 90 minutes from Los Angeles, is a great place to connect with like-minded, outdoor-loving folks,” T&L says.  “New businesses don’t pop up often—lawmakers do their part to ensure Ojai’s low-key vibe—so you can return year-after-year to your favorite haunts and to reunite with the happy folks in this chill, celeb-beloved enclave.”

On Marfa, T&L says, “Artists in search of a solitary life started to move to Marfa in the 1970s. Today, the population hovers at a modest 1,800, but there’s enough art, food, and quirk to entertain. El Cosmico offers glamping at its best and plenty of communal spaces. What draws tourists to drive at least three hours from the closest airport to these West Texas flatlands are the progressive galleries, mystifying desert skies, and artisans that liven up what could otherwise be a ghost town.”

Other cities in the ranking include Asheville, North Carolina; Austin, Texas; Boulder, Colorado; Charleston, South Carolina; and Islamorada, Florida.
