On This Day in ’63, It Was Lesley Gore’s Party

By Jessica Wheeler, AliveTampaBay Columnist

On March 30, 1963, Lesley Gore recorded “It’s My Party.” She was just 16 years old. The song became a top 5 hit and is considered a classic of the girl group sound. Besides being Lesley Gore’s first hit, it also marked the first hit recording produced by Quincy Jones, who later went on to work with Michael Jackson, producing the legendary Thriller album.
