In May 1965, the Rolling Stones recorded “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction,” the song that made them superstars. Featuring one of the first fuzz guitar riffs, the song was the band’s first number one song in the United States. Keith Richards recorded the first demo version of the song, featuring the famous riff, late at night in his hotel room in Clearwater, Florida. The fuzz guitar was meant to be a temporary substitute for the horns that Richards envisioned on the final version of the song, but he was eventually talked around to keeping the fuzz guitar instead.
