Chalk artists will bring “public art to the streets and the heart of our community” on Saturday (Nov. 18) in downtown St. Petersburg.

TBBCA Chalk Walk  is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 11th Street and Baum Ave.  The artists will create their chalk art on Baum Ave., which will be closed to traffic.

“Seven specially commissioned chalk artists will bring to life their chalk art interpretations to the theme of ‘SPACE’ throughout the day,” said Susana Weymouth, executive director of Tampa Bay Business for Culture & the Arts.

The free, family-friendly event offers the public a “rare glimpse into the process of the artists creating the work from beginning grid to a finished piece,” Ms. Weymouth said.  “Sidewalk art has a rich history of being an accessible form of art for all people,” she said, and the TBBCA Chalk Walk program “supports a particular genre of extremely talented and dedicated artists who create live art in ephemeral media.”

TBBCA, a non-profit organization that unites businesses in support of arts and culture, produces the annual event. Its co-sponsor this year is Et Cultura.

TBBCA Chalk Walk is part of the four-day Et Cultura arts festival of music, film, art, and panel discussions.
