Artist Jake Fernandez will open a solo exhibition on Sept. 4 tilted “Black and White” at the TECO Public Art Gallery.

The selection of drawings in black and white for the exhibit that runs through Oct. 31 “presents an intimate view of the artwork of Fernandez.  They clearly illustrate the artist’s concept and the detailed process that leads to the completion of major large-scale paintings and room-sized installations,” according to the gallery located at 702 N Franklin Street in downtown Tampa.

“My goal is to extract and render forms from the landscape that are ephemeral and beyond the boundaries of our ordinary human perception. Through these drawings I’m attempting to uncover and explain the hidden mystery of the never seen,” according to Mr. Fernandez.

The artist has exhibited extensively in solo and group exhibitions in galleries and museums around the country, and divides his time between Florida and New York.  You can visit the artist’s website at www.jakefernandezart.com.

Mr. Fernandez will also host a “talk and tour” at the gallery from 5:30 to 8 p.m.  on Sept. 28.

The TECO Public Art Gallery is free and open to the public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For information about the gallery,  contact Curator Debra Radke at dradke2@gmail.com.
