The TECO Public Art Gallery will host a solo exhibition by local artist Candace Knapp starting Nov. 2.

What makes the “Luminous Passages” exhibition “truly magical is the world created by Ms. Knapp in these beautiful, large-scale acrylic paintings of shimmering surfaces and reflections of sunlit spaces and deep, dark mysterious places,” according to the downtown Tampa gallery at 702 N Franklin St.

“There is something magical about light falling on water,” Ms. Knapp writes in her artist statement.  “The undulating reflections of plants, sky and sunlight in a river or pond give me a fleeting glimpse of an alternate reality. These paintings are my flights of fancy. They express my wish to follow the light to an inner state that is full of peace, hope and delight. It all begins with the photographs I take of reflections on the surface of water. My hope is that these paintings will take you someplace you will enjoy.”

The public is invited to  join artist Knapp from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 at the gallery. She will host a talk and tour of her exhibition and share thoughts about her work and inspirations. Ms. Knapp will also have copies of her bookMessages from Imaginary Friendsfor sale at the free event.

“Luminous Passages” closes on Jan. 2.

The TECO Public Art Gallery is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  For information about the gallery,  contact Curator Debra Radke at dradke2@gmail.com. For information about Ms. Knapp, visit her website at www.candaceknapp.com.
