A closing reception for the exhibit “When the Water Rises: Recent Paintings by Julie Heffernan” is scheduled for early March at the University of Tampa’s Scarfone/Hartley Gallery.

Ms. Heffernan will return to Tampa for the reception, hosted by the gallery and the Friends of the Scarfone/Hartley Gallery,  from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, March 2, the gallery announced.  The exhibit runs through Saturday, March 3.

Ms. Heffernan’s “recent paintings create alternative habitats in response to environmental disaster and planetary excess. Intricately wrought, her painting evoke the fantastical allegory of Hieronymus Bosch and the sublime of Thomas Cole and Albert Bierstadt,” according to the gallery located on the UT campus at the R.K. Bailey Art Studios,  310 N. Blvd. in Tampa.

“When the Water Rises” is a collaboration between the Louisiana State University College of Art + Design and the LSU Museum of Art.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 1 to 4 p.m. on Saturday.  Admission to the gallery is free of charge.
