On Feb. 24, 1973, Roberta Flack reached No. 1 with her song “Killing Me Softly With His Song.” The song won a Grammy for Record of the Year in 1974, Flack’s second consecutive Record of the Year Grammy—she had won the previous year for “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face.” “Killing Me Softly” was covered more than 20 years later by the Fugees, who also won a Grammy for their version.
