‘Golden Girls’ Themed Restaurant Opens in NYC

New York Times headline: Cheesecake for the Soul: A ‘Golden Girls’ Cafe Opens

Hulu’s launch of their exclusive streaming rights to The Golden Girls has drawn renewed interest in the show, set in Miami, which featured four female housemates in their golden years. The cast starred Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty.

The New York Times writes, “For all the show’s zany plots, what fans seem to cherish most are the intimate scenes in which the four friends sit around their kitchen table, sharing a cheesecake and talking into the night.”

Created by Susan Harris, the show originally aired on NBC from September 14, 1985, to May 9, 1992. The show won several honors, including the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Comedy Series — twice. It also won three Golden Globe Awards for Best Television Series – Musical or Comedy. Additionally, each of the four stars won an Emmy Award, making it one of only three sitcoms in history to achieve this distinction.
