A vote for a more affordable budget.

The Tampa City Council has rejected a whopping 16 percent increase in the property tax rate, part of Mayor Jane Castor’s $1.9 billion budget.

Four council members wisely voted no to the $54 million increase.

The Mayor, and the three city council members who voted yes for the 30 percent total budget increase, apparently don’t understand that inflation, a hidden tax, his picked the pockets of all taxpayers.

Without the millage increase, rising property values will still increase taxes to the city by $35 million.  In a $1.9 billion budget, good managers can prioritize spending toward needed projects.
