In May 1956, Gene Vincent recorded “Be Bop-A-Lula.” The song reached the top 10 on the Billboard pop charts, establishing the rockabilly singer as a rival for Elvis Presley. He later appeared in the hit film The Girl Can’t Help It to perform the song with his band, the Blue Caps. The song was a favorite of the Beatles, particularly George Harrison, who painted the song’s title on his psychedelic guitar in the late 1960s.
