Facts are stubborn things.
Yes, a bon mot used by John Adams. But when you state a fact, it’s interesting how many people filter the fact through their own values and beliefs and from the news they consume.
For example, the left are befuddled when told this fact: the top 1 percent of all taxpayers pay 40.1 percent of all federal income taxes. That’s according to the Internal Revenue Service.
Why this disbelief? The repeated, erroneous statement by liberals like Senator Bernie Sanders that the rich need to pay their fair share is rarely challenged by the mainstream news media, which also leans left.
The stubborn fact is this: high-income taxpayers already pay the majority of federal income taxes.
