Seminal 60s rock band The Doors will celebrate their 50th anniversary in Venice Beach, the Los Angeles neighborhood where they formed. Living band members John Densmore and Robby Krieger will attend the ceremony, along with family members of the late Ray Manzarek and Jim Morrison. The date was chosen to commemorate the release of their self-titled first album.

Jim Morrison, who died in 1971, had a strong Florida connection. He was born in Melbourne, Florida, in 1943, lived in Clearwater for the first three years of his life, and attended St. Petersburg College. “He was also a regular at coffeehouse and beatnik mecca Beaux Arts in Pinellas Park,” notes Ted Webb on the website Tampa Bay Legends.
