Paul Newman’s Rolex Sells for $17.8 Million, an Auction Record

Town&Country Magazine:  Paul Newman’s Rolex Daytona Is Now the Most Expensive Watch Sold at Auction

The actor’s personal timepiece went for $17.8 million.

Among watch collectors, a “Paul Newman” Rolex Daytona is a coveted possession. So when Paul Newman’s own “Paul Newman” hit the auction block at Phillips on Thursday, hopes were high that it would put its “in excess of $1 million” estimate to shame.
It did not disappoint. After 12 minutes of bidding from collectors across 43 countries and a packed New York sale room, the Ref. 6239 stainless-steel watch sold to an anonymous telephone bidder for $17,752,500, setting a world record for the most expensive watch ever sold at auction.
