From The New York Times: Yes, the News Can Survive the Newspaper.
The Newspaper Association of America, the trade group that has represented the newspaper publishers since 1887, is dropping the word that defined it: “Newspaper.”
The group will be known as the News Media Alliance.
One reason for the change: The number of newspapers continues to drop, which decreases the association’s membership. (It has fallen to about 2,000 from roughly 2,700.)
But the bigger issue, according to the group’s chief executive, is that the word “newspaper” has become meaningless in an age of social media and digital video.
