The people behind Wendy’s social media have made the fast-food chain an internet darling. Breaking with tradition, Wendy’s has been known to make jokes and take good-natured jabs at people who make strange complaints or have unrealistic expectations.
Some people wanted to get in on the fun by asking Wendy’s to “roast them.” One Twitter user tweeted Wendy’s with just such a request — “Roast me” — prompting Wendy’s to tweet back, “Get one of your 51 followers to roast you.”
Now a Twitter request from a Nevada teen, asking for a year of free chicken nuggets, has become most retweeted post of all time.
Carter Wilkerson asked the restaurant on Twitter last month how many retweets it would take for him to get free nuggets for a year.
Wendy’s replied, “18 million.”
With more than 3.4 million retweets, the teen has set the record, surpassing Ellen DeGeneres’ Oscars selfie. Twitter confirmed the record on Tuesday.
But Wilkerson won’t have to wait for the 18-million mark. Wendy’s says he has earned the nuggets already.
