Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.
At Davos, President Trump said out loud what Europe’s elites dodge: you can’t run a “liberal order” on American muscle while your own economies stall and your militaries stay hollow.
Europe’s policy decisions helped drive higher energy costs, weaker industry, slower economic growth and an expensive social-welfare state—then European leaders wonder why their defense budgets and military stockpiles lag. Ukraine exposed the truth: Europe talks tough, but still leans on U.S. intelligence, logistics, and deterrence.
Trump’s insults can be counterproductive, sure—but the wake-up call is overdue. If Europe wants strategic autonomy, it needs energy realism, pro-growth reform, and serious rearmament—not another Davos panel.
