Nearly three quarters of U.S. adults are overweight or obese. That’s from a new study reported in the Lancet.
Both conditions can increase the risk of diseases like diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, leading to higher healthcare costs.
Projections indicate that, without significant policy changes, 260 million Americans could be overweight or obese by 2050. Especially troubling — more than one in three children are now overweight or obese.
Addressing this issue requires systemic solutions. This includes improved food access, lifestyle modifications, and broader availability of effective treatments.
A national commitment is essential to reverse these alarming trends before they become irreversible.
