Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.
Florida voters made affordability a defining issue at the ballot box. And they spoke loudly.
Constitutional Amendment 3 passed with 62 percent of the vote; nearly 4.9 million Floridians voting yes.
The measure increases the homestead exemption for non-school property taxes to $150,000 in 2027 and $250,000 in 2028, with adjustments for inflation.
That means lower property taxes for qualifying homeowners, while schools retain their existing tax base.
The amendment also further limits annual increases in assessed property values for non-homesteaded properties, including rentals, second homes, and businesses.
For Floridians struggling with rising costs, property tax relief is now on the way.
