A new Canadian study shows how tech trends will affect work in the future, especially among young people.
The report, “Future-proof: Preparing Young Canadians for the Future of Work,” focuses on how automation in entry-level jobs could change the landscape of the labor force.
Service-industry jobs, which are popular for teens looking for part-time or summer work, are particularly vulnerable to automation.
“That’s why we’re trying to get ahead of this and saying what can we do, so that youth in particular going through our education system are going to have a basket of skills to inoculate themselves as much as possible against that kind of potential future,” one of the reports authors told the CBC.
A study by Oxford University says that nearly half of all U.S. jobs are at risk of being automated within the next 20 years.
