Tampa Bay, get ready for what’s described as one of the “most heavy-hitting exhibits Ybor City has seen in a while.”
From 6 p.m. to midnight on Friday (July 27) at Burn Rubber, twenty graffiti writers—six of whom are legend pioneers of the art—will customize one-off Reebok Classic shoes in their own style.
Blade, a headlining graffiti writer, will be at the show.
“New York City graffiti, which evolved in the South Bronx during the time when hip hop was created in the same neighborhood, has had a major influence on culture, street fashion, and contemporary art,” said Michelle Sawyer, co-curator of MergeCulture, the gallery putting on this show.
Graffiti continues to influence societies around the world; most of the artists in the display have also exhibited internationally, featuring work on panels and canvas.
“To see their work on shoes is a unique feature,” Sawyer said. “We’re thrilled to bring these artists to Tampa.”
All of the shoes will be on display and available for purchase that night at Burn Rubber, 1517 E. 7th Ave., Suite B, in Ybor City. For more information, visit the event page and get ready for a night you won’t soon forget.
