Welcome back to OnThePoint, this is Greg C. Truax.
Just weeks into President Trump’s second term, Democrats are flailing.
Their internal debates—caution versus confrontation—have yielded no clear strategy. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer faces pressure to oppose Trump, but his divided caucus shows little unity. Meanwhile, the president fulfills campaign promises — trimming bloated agencies, cutting wasteful spending, and making decisive foreign policy moves.
Schumer’s attempts to rally his party is more damage control than leadership. Democrats now risk fading into irrelevance, reacting rather than leading.
If they don’t unify and define their agenda soon, they won’t just be the opposition—they’ll be spectators, in a Washington dominated by President Trump.
