New York City-Owned Grocery Stores, Citizen-Owned U-Hauls?

Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax

New York City just elected Democratic socialist Zohran Mamdani mayor, and his platform reads like a shopping spree: rent freezes, city-owned grocery stores, fare-free buses, and no-cost child care—paid for by higher taxes on corporations and the top 1 percent.

Here’s the catch: the top 1 percent—only 41,000 filers—already pay over 40 percent of the City’s income taxes. Push them harder and they’ll hire a moving truck.

Nearly a million New Yorkers said they would leave if Mamdani won; 533,000 departed the city in the last three years for states like Florida.

You don’t grow a city by chasing away the very people who fund it.

From the NewsTalk 1040 studios, I’m Greg C. Truax.
