Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.
Streaming has officially surpassed both broadcast and cable TV combined, according to Nielsen’s latest report.
In May, streaming captured 44.8 percent of all TV viewing—driven by YouTube, free ad-supported platforms, and the major networks’ shift to streaming apps. Meanwhile, cable and broadcast fell to a combined 44.2 percent.. Just four years ago, streaming trailed far behind. But now, Americans are choosing what to watch, when to watch, and where to watch it.
Live sports and breaking news may keep traditional TV afloat for now, but the future belongs to digital. The revolution isn’t coming—it’s already here.
