Property taxes and local government budgets have soared across Florida, leading to ever-increasing tax bills paid by homeowners.
The Republican Party of Florida is right to demand immediate property tax relief through its #RollbackNOW initiative, which urges cities and counties to adopt the rollback rate when formulating their budgets.
As Gov. DeSantis put it, homeowners are effectively paying rent to the government just to live on their own property. The governor is exploring bold solutions—including the potential elimination of property taxes entirely. Florida’s homestead exemption, he rightly argues, no longer provides adequate protection against these rising costs.
