It’s time for elected officials to think and act like owners.
This is Greg C. Truax with OnThePoint.
A Tampa Bay Times editorial asks: Is affordable housing actually affordable if taxpayers contribute $500,000 to build each home? A majority of St. Petersburg City Council members approved a project requiring more than $12 million in subsidies to build just 24 townhomes. The editorial called the project a bad deal.
The New York Times reports that in San Francisco a tiny public bathroom with a toilet and sink was going to cost a jaw dropping $1.7 million. That’s about the purchase price of a single-family home in San Francisco. Taxpayers weren’t amused and the expensive toilet project was nixed.
Meantime, taxpayers are left scratching their heads in disbelief.
