Opinion

Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.

Television news thrives on visuals, and the “No Kings” rallies in Florida delivered exactly what the cameras crave: painted signs, chanting crowds, and dramatic sound bites denouncing President Trump.

But did the so-called “thousands of Floridians” protesting really represent the 24 million people who live here? In the real world, most folks were busy living their lives—not dressed as chickens, waving signs on a street corner.

Yet the way the rally was reported leaves the impression that liberal protesters reflect public opinion.

Facts to add context to the reporting: Trump won Florida by 13 points, Republicans hold every statewide elective office, and the GOP now leads voter registration by 1.4 million.

But sure—go ahead and tell me again how Florida is turning Democratic blue.

From the NewsTalk 1040 studios, I’m Greg C. Truax.
