Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.
Europe wants American reassurance. Marco Rubio offered something tougher: American reality.
In Munich, Secretary of State Rubio reminded Europe the U.S. isn’t just a NATO checkbook — it’s closely tied to Europe by history and civilization.
But he also torched the post–Cold War fantasy of a “borderless world,” warning that European elites chased utopian schemes while ordinary citizens absorbed the costs: mass migration, weakened cohesion, and a hollowed-out state.
Rubio’s message was simple: alliances don’t survive on sentiment. They survive on strength, sovereignty, and seriousness — especially on defense.
America will stand with Europe. But Europe has to start standing up for itself.
