2023 was a rocky ratings year for cable news

One measure is seven-day primetime. Fox News averaged 1.85 million viewers, down 20 percent from a year earlier. CNN posted 582,000 viewers, down 19 percent. MSNBC, which bucked the trend, up 2 percent and averaged 1.22 million viewers. For the eighth year in a row, Fox News was the top-rated cable network.
The three major cable networks today reach millions of fewer homes than in 2016. What’s going on? A major culprit is cord-cutting. Viewers are swapping pay TV subscriptions for streaming video. Another reason: increased competition.
Its crystal clear: America’s changing news habits will be a major story throughout 2024. This is Greg C. Truax with OnThePoint on WHBO AM 1040
