The James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art opens its first special exhibition, “Art and the Animal,” on July 28 at the downtown St. Petersburg museum.
The exhibition, in conjunction with the Society of Animal Artists, is free with admission to the museum.
The Society of Animal Artists, founded in 1960, is devoted to “promoting excellence in the artistic portrayal of the creatures sharing our planet, and to the education of the public through art exhibitions, seminars, and demonstrations,” according to the museum. The Society’s membership represents a veritable who’s who of animal artists from around the world.
Art from the show, which runs through Oct. 23, will be available for purchase on site from museum personnel.
The newly opened museum, located at 150 Central Ave., is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and to 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
