On This Day, the Bo Diddley Beat Was Born

On March 2, 1955, Bo Diddley recorded the legendary self-titled song “Bo Diddley” in his first session at Universal Recording Studios in Chicago. The song would go on to top the R&B charts, and its backbeat influenced rock bands for generations to come, including the Rolling Stones, who mined its beat for their hit “Not Fade Away.”
