5 Questions for Author Edie Galley

Edie Galley

What’s the story behind Still Not Enough? AliveTampaBay asked author Edie Galley about her new book, what inspired her to write it, and what she hopes readers discover along the way.

AliveTampaBay: What inspired you to write this book, and why was now the right time to tell this story?

Edie Galley: It started with my own healing — spending years being the capable one, the one everyone counted on, while a quiet voice underneath kept whispering that I still wasn’t enough. But the real push came from realizing I wasn’t alone in that. Through my coaching practice, and in friends and women I’d meet just living life, I kept seeing the same wound show up again and again, especially in midlife. That’s when I knew this wasn’t just my story to tell quietly — it was one I needed to put into the world for every woman who’s ever felt like she was still not enough.

ATB: Every first book comes with challenges. What was the biggest obstacle you faced during the writing or publishing process, and how did you overcome it?

EG: The publishing side was all new to me — there was definitely a learning curve. But the real obstacle wasn’t technical. It was writing honestly. Being vulnerable on the page, knowing that once it’s out there, you’re going to be seen. That’s a stretch for anyone, and it was for me too. I overcame it by reminding myself why I was writing it in the first place — not to be seen for being seen’s sake, but because being seen was exactly what I needed other women to feel was safe to do too.

ATB: Was there a moment while writing when the book surprised you or changed the way you think about your subject — or even yourself?

EG: There were so many moments this book tried to stop me — the vulnerability of writing it, the technical stretches of getting it published, all of it. And yet I kept going. That’s the moment that changed everything for me: realizing that the strength to keep going was already there. I didn’t have to build it from nothing. And that’s what I want other women to take from this — that strength isn’t something you have to go find somewhere out there. It’s already in you. It just needs to be brought out, even if no one’s ever helped you bring it out before.

ATB: If readers take away just one idea, lesson, or feeling after finishing your book, what do you hope it is?

EG: That the voice telling them they’re still not enough was never actually theirs. Once they see how it’s been hiding — quietly sabotaging their relationships, their choices, their sense of self — they get to decide who they become next. A woman who trusts her own strength, shows up fully in her own life, and knows without question that not only was she always enough to begin with, but that strength will create so much more for her in the future.

ATB: Now that you’ve published your first book, what’s next — for your writing, your career, or your life?

EG: Still Not Enough is the anchor of the library, but it’s just the beginning. I’m building out the Everyday Matters series as companion daily practice books, growing the Aging Boldly Living Fully podcast, and doubling down on the bigger mission underneath all of it — helping people see that healthy aging isn’t about slowing down, it’s about finally showing up fully. Wellness, longevity, and worth are all tied together for me now. And as part of Bold Living Press, one of my goals now is to help other midlife authors get their stories heard too. I’m living out loud what I teach: that it’s never too late to reclaim your health, your voice, and your life.

ATB: Thank you.
