World War I Painting Might Top $1 Million at Sotheby’s Auction

When A Dawn, a painting by CRW Nevinson, was last sold in 1964, it fetched 300 British pounds. Now regarded as one of the English artist’s finest works, the painting is to be auctioned by Sotheby’s with a guide price of up to a million British pounds, or over 1.3 million U.S. dollars.

A Dawn by CRW Nevinson draws on the artist’s experience as a volunteer ambulance driver in France.

A Dawn will be in the Modern & Postwar British Art sale on Nov. 21, and keen interest is expected among nations whose troops were about to be sucked into the war.
