Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.
Socialism is gaining ground in America.
Socialist and socialist-aligned candidates are winning elections in major cities, serving in Congress and running for the U.S. Senate, including here in Florida.
Yet America’s free-market economy has helped make us the world’s largest economy.
Why now? Rising costs and economic frustration make big-government promises more appealing.
But socialism has a troubled history. At its core, it favors public or collective ownership over private enterprise.
Today, its advocates call it democratic socialism. That word “democratic” is no accident. It offers reassurance to Americans who value freedom and constitutional government.
But here’s the question: Does adding the word “democratic” change socialism’s failed underlying economic philosophy? From the NewsTalk 1040 studios, I’m Greg C. Truax.
