Can a liberal win statewide in deep-red Florida?
In the Democratic primary, voters by 12 points chose liberal state Rep. Angie Nixon over the more moderate retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman.
Winning in November’s general election will require support across party lines, but her platform is decidedly a call for new big federal government programs—like free child care, a federal jobs guarantee and Medicare for All, which is government run health insurance.
Florida voters may ask Nixon, a member of the Democratic Socialists of America, a simple question: Who pays for trillions in new spending when the national debt is already near $40 trillion?”
