Welcome back to OnThePoint, I’m Greg C. Truax.
The Florida Education Association’s recent lawsuit seeks to declare Florida’s school-choice programs unconstitutional. The teacher’s union claims these programs violate the Florida Constitution. But the Florida Constitution does not prohibit parents from choosing better educational opportunities for their children.
Florida parents deserve educational freedom. And Florida voters clearly support school choice. Republicans, Democrats, and independents overwhelmingly favor giving families more control over their children’s education.
The facts undermine the union’s argument. Study’s show school choice has improved student achievement — including in traditional public schools. Competition works.
Isn’t the lawsuit really about protecting the union’s shrinking control over education?
